During the summer, my family spends a lot of time at the pool. What can I say? My husband and I are both from the Caribbean, and though we’d rather be swimming in the ocean, we love the water either way. My daughter has also been taking swimming lessons, so we’ve been trying to give her as much practice as we can. But finding affordable swimsuits that fit well is  a challenge every year. We’re also always looking for girls’ swimsuits that are modest, because my husband and I agree that our daughter is just too young for a bikini.

For my daughter, we found this super cute OP tankini featuring ruffles and a gingham and cherry print for just $9.97. Not only that, but there were other one- and two-piece styles that started at $7.97. I honestly could not believe the girls swimsuits were so inexpensive! We’ve paid $16-24 for a full-price swimsuit elsewhere and only paid close to $10 when they were on clearance. We’re definitely going back to Walmart to get her a second suit.

My daughter is happy because she got a two-piece, and I’m happy because the tankini top is long enough to overlap the bottom, so at first glance, you’d think it’s a one-piece. We did buy it a bit big so she’ll grow into it, but we were happy with the fit.

As for me, I’m really picky when it comes to swimwear. Yes, it has to be cute, but it also has to be supportive in the right places. As soon as I saw this Catalina one-piece on the rack, I knew I wanted it. When I tried it on, I got the confirmation I needed.

For women with a large chest like me, finding a swimsuit that properly supports the girls is a challenge. I’ve found that halter styles tend to work best because I can control how much tension I get. This suit is from the “Suddenly Slim” collection, so it’s supportive all over — not just in the bust. The shirred overlay also helps to smooth out the body and gives the whole swimsuit an overall retro look and feel. I felt like a pinup model in this.

I initially found a great high-waisted bikini at the Walmart website, but I’m one of those people who needs to try on a swimsuit before I buy. I was disappointed it wasn’t available in store, but given my experience with the great fit of the one I got, I’d definitely be comfortable buying it now. My one-piece was $32.97 in store, but it’s on sale for $25 online, and it’s available in both straight and plus sizes up to 3X. (aff)

    1. Thank you Bessie! I’m really happy with it. I love to swim, so it has to be cute AND structurally sound, and this wins on both accounts 🙂

    1. Thank you Christina, from my daughter and I! My suit is available in a bunch of other colors and patterns as well, including polka dot — which I think REALLY looks retro 😉

  1. I know I’ve told you this on one social channel or another, but as soon as you posted this review, I bought this swimsuit. Two years later, it’s still my favorite especially now at 6 months pregnant. I’m thinking about ordering another. Because yaaaaas.
