Fall is easily my favorite season because it means the transition from the scorching summer to cooler temps that allow me to turn off the air conditioning and open the windows. But it also opens up entirely new wardrobe possibilities. It’s still early fall though, and in Georgia, that typically means really cool mornings and really hot afternoons. So I almost have to dress for both seasons. Add to that the fact that my baby bump has outgrown most of my clothes, and you’ll see my predicament.

I picked up this chambray dress at Old Navy a few weeks back, and it is the kind of piece I love for every season. It’s perfectly appropriate for a hot summer day, but with a few accessories and clever layering, it’s the perfect fall and winter piece too. This time, I paired it with some boots I thrifted months ago and a colorful scarf. But as the temperatures drop, I can add some thick leggings and knee-high boots and still be good for winter.

Plus, the flare silhouette starts just above my belly, so though it’s not a maternity dress, it still works as one. Still, I’ll be able to wear it next spring and summer when I’m not pregnant, so that makes it a winner.

What’s your favorite way to transition a piece for cooler weather?

  1. Lovely site! And what a pretty chambray dress put to good use for maternity! (Gotta tell ya, you young’uns have SO much more range of maternity wear to go for than we had decades ago. And I love it that you can all show off the bump! ) Additionally, I love brown and blue together … a favorite combo of mine. As you show us, it’s an easy and effortless combination. Boots are fierce combination with the chambray! Pretty you!
I especially love it that you feature your huz (dapper, indeed) and your completely lovely little girl. Handsome family, each one.

    1. Thanks Jan! There are definitely more options now than I imagine there were, so thanks for putting that into perspective for me 🙂 I’m trying to adjust a lot of non-maternity pieces so I won’t waste too much money on stuff I’ll only wear for a brief time. And thank you for the kind words about me and my family!
