For most people, Labor day marks the official end of summer — at least is far as school is concerned — and the beginning of the transition to the cooler weather of fall. For me, it also means choosing outfits that will work during the still warm days, but can easily transition to cooler nights and work for fall weather. So when Walmart challenged me to come up with a Labor Day idea, I figured now would be as good a time as any to get back into the groove of doing outfit posts. My daughter and I chose transitional pieces at Walmart — an affordable top and bottom for each of us — to work with other items in our closets as the seasons change.
My daughter picked this Faded Glory peplum top, and I love it for two reasons: It is a high-low top, meaning it is longer in the back than it is in the front. This means she can wear it with leggings or jeggings, and it completely covers her rear. It’s also a great layering piece that she can wear over a long-sleeved tee or under a cardigan and the weather turns cooler, and swap the flats for boots.
She also chose to wear these neutral snakeskin print flats, which coordinate really well with the snake print in the top without being matchy matchy. I tell you, this girl is finding her own sense of style, and I love it!

These days, this mama-to-be is choosing comfort over all else when I get dressed. This outfit is a perfect example.
I grabbed this awesome Marilyn Monroe graphic tee because she is among my favorite icons for curvy women, and I immediately knew that I wanted to pair the top with black or gray patterned pants. I was SO happy to find these snake print Faded Glory leggings, because they coordinated really well with the top without clashing. So my daughter and I both chose snake prints. I didn’t even realize that until I looked at the photos after the fact.
My biggest complaint about these leggings is the fit at the bottom. Rather than fitting closely at the ankle, they’re wide and look stretched out, even brand new. Since they’re just-above-the-ankle length anyway, I solved this problem by folding them up once for a closer fit.
I love, however, the super comfortable fit at the waist. They lay on top of the skin without digging or leaving uncomfortable elastic marks, and the stretch is awesome. This is really important for me as my baby bump grows, because most traditional bottoms just aren’t comfortable any more, unless I wear them really high on my waist. I’m definitely going back for some more of these, because comfy leggings are going to become a staple of my fall maternity wardrobe. I’ll just buy them in a couple of larger sizes, because at $6.97, you can’t beat the price.
And with that, I leave you with a photo of my belly, which is just starting to pop out…
…and my hilarious interpretation of a “pregnant pose” with both hands on my lower back. I couldn’t even help laughing at myself.

How are you transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall? Labor Day sales are a great way to stock up on layering pieces, and even Walmart has TONS of items on clearance for the holiday weekend. Check out your local store.

Congratulations on the baby! You and your daughter look great!
Thank you so much Lucrecer!
You both look great. Pepulum style tops are one of my favorites. I love the bright pink you selected, great contrast against the gray. We are still going to have some hot days, so transitional pieces are a must.
Thanks Jacqueline! I’m definitely not quite ready to put away my summer wardrobe yet, because though we had a relatively cool and very wet summer in Georgia, NOW, the heat has decided to make an appearance and seems to be sticking around for a while.
Thanks for finding me at style sessions. I love the outfits that you and your daughter picked out.
