Need a Chair? Just Carry It on Your Back

During the summer, my family likes to take advantage of as many free activities as many free, or really cheap, family activities as we can. That often means free movies in the park, since various cities throughout the Atlanta metro area host them.

We used to spend those nights at the movies laying on a blanket on the grass. But honestly, not every park had great, comfortable grass, and sitting on the ground behind a bunch of other people in chairs wasn’t fun. We finally got a folding chair for my daughter a while back, but my husband and I were still relegated to the blanket.

So when Walmart offered me the opportunity to try out a new Mainstays folding backpack chair, I knew we’d be able to use it.

The chair is a typical folding beach-style chair with a metal frame and canvas back and seat. However, what makes this chair unique is that it has straps so you can wear it as a backpack.

It was definitely convenient for us this past weekend when we went to see a movie and were also toting a cooler, a bag of snacks, and my 7-year-old and her chair — though she did get pretty comfortable in this one 🙂

You can change the angle of the seat back pretty easily, and there’s a built-in headrest, so it’s pretty easy to get comfortable. But if I had one complaint, it would be that the chair is really low. It felt like I was just a few inches higher than I would’ve been had I sat on a blanket. But it was markedly more comfortable.

We’re definitely keeping this chair in the trunk so we’ll have it next time we go to the park, the Atlanta Carnival parade, or really, any outdoor event. In fact, I’m pretty sure we’re going to be grabbing a second one for my husband.

  1. You have a beautiful daughter. She reminds me of my daughter. They are both 7 and very “shapely”. I was looking at the back to school spread where you used you 50 gift card from Wal-Mart and I have the same issue with clothes, especially pants. We need room in the thighs and buttocks area! Room is important especially for school. I dont want her to have to sit on the floor and be uncomfortable. Well, keep up the good work and I am a new follower!
