Outfit: Built to Twirl

As soon as I saw this skirt in my mother’s closet, I knew I had to have it. It has about a million panels of fabric that make it full and flouncy (and a real pain in the butt to iron). It was love at first sight. It’s the kind of skirt that makes you want to twirl…

My mother was happy to oblige, since she said she’d had it for a really long time and never worn it. Score!

I immediately knew I wanted to style it with a chambray shirt, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the ever fabulous Nadia Aboulhosn had worn a denim shirt and white skirt a few weeks back. Her skirt was tulle and sheer, but I love the idea that we had such a similar idea of how to style a big white skirt. You can see her take on it here.

I’ve also been experimenting with the idea of showing a little skin. Not too much. Just a peek of midriff here and there. I’ve come a long way, but my stomach is far from flat. But guess what? I’ve learned to love it anyway, stretch marks and all, because it is the body I’m in today, and that’s all that matters. Plus, my husband/photographer thinks it’s pretty sexy. *wink*

I considered wearing some super sexy silver heels I recently bought from ShoeDazzle, but realistically, they were going to come off as soon as I finished shooting because they are not comfortable. At all. So I kept it real and wore my flats. Though there was a moment when I decided to take my shoes off and get my twirl on. Again.

Hey. I’m all about making fashion fun. And trying not to show my underwear when I twirl in a fancy skirt on a windy day.

  1. Well, well, look at flirty and sassy!! This is so fun and I say Woo hoo for celebrating your body!! I love this look fem and powerful!

    1. Thanks Alison! I absolutely adored this look, and I know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of this skirt this spring and summer ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. twirl baby twirl! and i must say your mom has some style! love the skirt paired with the chambray. i don’t have much white in my closet simply because i don’t think i would be able to keep it clean, but you’ve inspired me to add some this spring! and your confidence makes these pictures that much more beautiful! enjoy your day pretty lady;)

    1. Thanks Chandra! I was worried about keeping it clean too, but it was too fabulous to pass up for that reason alone. I ate ice cream in it with no problems, so I might start buying more white myself ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Jennae, your skirt is gorgeous! I love the bright white and fullness of it. It looks stunning on you! I also love the way you styled it with your chambray shirt. I wore mine in Monday’s post with a skirt as well :). Guess we were on the same wave length this week!

    1. Thanks Christina! I loved your chambray with the lace. It’s one of those pieces that will never go out of style and can be worn a million different ways ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks Antionette! I know, right? I’m going to start taking more peeks through her closet to see what other gems I can find ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks Karen! I didn’t think I wanted one until I found this one. I love it so much that I recently took it in because it was too big ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. i REALLY love the mix of blues you have going here. you do “put together without overdone” so, so well. i have a cobalt blue long vintage skirt i’ve been meaning to try – this might be the way to do it! thanks for the inspiration as always, friend!

  5. I think I just found tomorrow’s outfit! I was just trying to figure out what to wear with my white skirt so this is perfect! Im thinking leopard flats though…Thanks for the inspiration, so glad I found your blog ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Way to score from mom’s closet! Lovely. I like how you’re having fun in that outfit. The white and blue is so fresh. Love the clutch too–and that you’re owning your body and loving it!

    1. Thanks Jean. It took a while for me to get there, but now that I’ve finally reached a good level of body confidence, I’m going to enjoy every second of it!

  7. Love love love! the outfit, esp the skirt alone is gorgeous, but adding the print clutch was a masterful move! check out my blog to see WIWW. (PS I’m green too!) hugs!
