During the past year and a half of blogging about green issues, I have discovered some great organizations that are doing important, pioneering work for the environment and for our children. One of my favorites is Health Child Healthy World, a nonprofit that aims to help parents to protect their children from harmful chemicals.

The organization recently announced that during their October benefit gala, The Healthy Child Healthy World AWARDS, they will honor one “Mom on a Mission,” described as a woman dedicated to “creating healthier and happier environments for children and families.” The winner will be flown to Los Angeles, where she will spend two nights at a local green hotel and be fitted for an outfit for the gala by eco-couture fashion designer Linda Loudermilk. At the gala, the award will be presented by a special, as-yet-unrevealed, celebrity guest.

As a part of the green blogosphere, I can easily think of more than one woman who would deserve this award, including Sommer from Green & Clean Mom and Monica from Healthy Green Moms.

Nominate a Mom

If you know (or are) a woman who is deserving of this award, here’s the nomination process, straight from their website:

Our judging criteria: We are seeking a heart-lifting, true story that both moves and inspires us by sharing a mother’s work to create healthier environments for children and families.

Who is a candidate: Any exceptional mother (currently living in the United States) who seeks to make a difference for the better, generously gives back to others, or overcame adversity with courage.

How to enter: Only ONE nomination per person is allowed. Please enter by sending your “heart-lifting, true story” to award {at} healthychild {dot} org. Submissions should be no more than 750 words in length.

Deadline for Nominations: August 15, 2009, 11:59pm PST.
